About Steen

In February and March 2008 two of my pieces were included in the regional juried exhibit "Interpretations of the figure" at the University of Indianapolis. In January and February 2007 at Arts Interface and in July 2005 at the Winds Cafe I had shows with my friend Georgia Papadakis. Georgia has a page dedicated to Winds show. Images of my pieces in the Arts Interface show are here. In the recent past I have shown work at Sinclair Community College, Riverbend Art Center, the Ohio Art League, and at the Dayton Visual Arts Center.

It is important to me that I enjoy working on a piece, producing a work of art should be fun. In each work I strive to create a figure that is alive. I take great pleasure in working when I feel I am achieving this goal. It is also important to me that the work is a "portrait" of the model.

Local/regional artists who have significantly influenced aspects of my work include: Curtis Barnes, Mark Echtner, Terry Hitt, Jack Mann, Lee Miller, Patrick Mauk, Gerald Page, Georgia Papadakis, Eliana Saari, Sandi Sharp, and Kim Vito. Influences from further away include Richard Deibenkorn, Jim Dine, Henri Matisse, Philip Pearlstein, Man Ray, and Egon Schiele.
